Hello!
So I have noticed with the HEMS Team that we dont really account for the blood used within a scene - and a lot of time time the amount of blood given to a patient wouldnt suffice the needs of the patients condition.
Theres something called the "Rule of 3-1" and "Third-Space Losses".
The rule of 3-1 entails for every 1ml of blood replaced via Blood transfusion, It must be accompnied by 3ml of Saline Solution (or ringalatate)
The rule of three eliminates the potentiality of "Third-Space Losses" which is caused by blood & fluids being taken by the interstitium (Organ and muscle lining) and tissues.
So for 1 Bag of Blood the patient would need 3 bags of saline alongside it to eliminate the fluid gaps caused by tissues.
Measurements:
Blood Bag = 450-500ml of Blood
Saline Bag = 500ml of Saline
Many thanks,
