I want to make a suggestion for CIU (RTPC) currently you are only allowed to be waiting at a police station and not allowed to actively patrol. I think that having someone switch to CIU just for a crash is time-consuming which is why many people don't like doing it. I understand that you can attend in your present vehicle and not the CIU vehicle providing you have tacops and can put the high viz jacket on.

I propose that CIU can drive around and deal with Insurance, tax, and MOT markers just like ERT would. I find playing as CIU very fun but only learned that you cannot actively patrol in the vehicle. I'm not saying to allow CIU to be involved in active pursuits that isn't feasible. I also believe that having the CIU vehicle driving around more will prompt people to do the POLAC's that they are supposed to be doing. I know from the patroling I was doing that lots of people who wouldn't normally do POLACS were asked politely and had done them.

The second suggestion is I found out if you witness a crash as CIU you are not able to process the scene at all, I think this should be changed. if you are on scene and have a good clear perspective of things you should be able to if running as CIU conduct a non-biased investigation. This (ensures) people do fill out the POLAC's and kills two birds with one stone.

on the second suggestion I think that if the CIU unit is in no way related to the rtc but still was there to witness the scene play out then they should be able to process the scene as I think that if you were some what related to the rtc then your probably going to be biased other then that i think it’s a good suggestion

I mean let's say, for instance, I am parked up at Legion and witness an officer have an accidental POLAC according to what I am being told. We cannot process the scene. But from my perspective, we witnessed it but weren't involved in it. We should be able to proactively do the CIU.

CIU is called the ''Collision Investigations Unit'', they don't deal with proactive policing

Realistically every traffic officer is trained to investigate collisions to some extent therefore there should be no requirement to switch uniform and cars. Only serious or fatal collisions require the specialist investigation units.

Therefore using that logic RTPC should be able to attend any collision without the need to change vehicles or uniform unless the collision is severe or fatal. Believe this fixes the issue of people not wanting to do CIU due to the fact they have to change role and then drive to the scene

It does seem a bit pointless to me for units to be sat around waiting for someone to have a crash when they could be patrolling as normal and then attend a crash to do CIU when needed.

Hi Woody,

Thanks for your suggestion.
While I believe your suggestion has some merit, unfortunately I won't be considering this as an option for CIU within RTPC at the moment.

CIU is a reactive role, something that doesn't require a permanent asset out patrolling for. While I understand what you mention this asset could be tailored for, it is then less valuable than an Advanced asset within our remit and therefore unable to assist in our tactics.

I understand you enjoy the role of CIU, as do a few others however, what I do not want to do is draw the role away from every other trained Officer. All RTPC Officers are trained to undertake CIU, having a dedicated car out for CIU would likely only cause further issues of units not attending requests.

CIU has been a hardship for RTPC Command for as long as I can remember and only recently have we started to get a good number of Officers attending calls.
Right now, there is nothing stopping an Advanced or TPAC asset turning up as CIU in their standard Traffic vehicle. The designated CIU vehicles are if you are at the station when a call comes in.

If, for example, you have TacOps and wish to RP the changing of your HiVis on scene from your boot to CIU - by all means carry on.

With reference to your last note - RTPC Officers are only restricted to attend a scene if they were directly involved in it, such as involved in the pursuit. If for example a pursuit passes you and crashes in front of you while you were not attached, you are more than welcome to attend as CIU.

Thank you for your suggestion however we will be marking this as declined.

Regards,

OT1 Chinny
